From Farming to Financial Freedom: Women Leading Change

Agriculture remains the backbone of South Sudan’s economy, yet many rural families—especially women—lack access to the tools, skills, and resources needed to make farming a sustainable livelihood. The Foundation for Child Education & Development Africa (F-CEDA) is empowering women and youth across the Western Equatoria region through livelihood and economic empowerment programs that transform subsistence farming into a pathway to financial independence.

F-CEDA’s livelihoods program focuses on equipping participants with agricultural skills, entrepreneurship training, and access to markets. Women’s groups are supported to form cooperatives, enabling them to collectively farm, save, and invest in small enterprises. Through community training sessions, participants learn modern farming techniques, post-harvest management, and financial literacy—helping them increase productivity and manage their income more effectively.

In several communities, these initiatives have significantly improved food security and household income. Many women who once relied solely on seasonal farming are now producing surplus crops for sale, diversifying their livelihoods through poultry, vegetable growing, and small trade. This shift not only strengthens household resilience but also empowers women to take leadership roles in their communities.

F-CEDA’s approach also integrates gender equity and inclusion. The organization ensures that both men and women participate in decision-making processes and that training sessions accommodate the needs of marginalized groups, including young mothers and people living with disabilities.

By combining practical skills with empowerment, F-CEDA’s livelihood programs contribute to long-term economic growth and social stability. Each success story—of a woman earning her own income, a youth starting a small business, or a family achieving food security—reflects the transformative power of opportunity.

Support F-CEDA’s efforts to build resilient and self-reliant communities. Together, we can empower women and youth to create sustainable livelihoods and brighter futures for their families.
