HIV/AIDS remains one of the most pressing public health challenges in South Sudan, affecting thousands of individuals and families. While access to treatment and prevention services has improved, stigma and discrimination continue to hinder progress in combating the epidemic. The Foundation for Child Education & Development Africa (F-CEDA), in partnership with CMMB through CDC/PEPFAR funding, is implementing community-based programs that promote HIV awareness, prevention, and care.
F-CEDA’s approach focuses on empowering communities with accurate information about HIV transmission, testing, and treatment. Through community dialogue sessions, outreach campaigns, and peer education, local residents gain knowledge and confidence to make informed health decisions. These activities are particularly targeted toward adolescents, young women, and key populations who are most at risk.
The organization also works closely with health facilities to strengthen referral systems, ensuring that individuals who test positive receive timely and quality care. Training is provided to community health workers to enhance their capacity in delivering HIV-related services and counseling. By integrating HIV services with reproductive health and social behavior change communication, F-CEDA ensures that prevention and care go hand in hand.
A significant part of the program involves addressing stigma. Many people living with HIV continue to face discrimination that discourages them from seeking help. F-CEDA engages community and religious leaders to promote inclusion, compassion, and acceptance for people living with HIV. These efforts have resulted in stronger community support systems and improved access to life-saving health services.
Through sustained awareness and education, F-CEDA continues to build healthier communities where HIV is understood as a manageable condition rather than a source of shame. The organization’s work demonstrates that lasting change is possible when people are informed, empowered, and united against stigma.
Join F-CEDA in the fight against HIV stigma. Together, we can create communities that support every individual’s right to health, dignity, and hope.
